Pennan Den

Often played as a much quicker hornpipe, but I prefer it as a slow air. Written by James Watt (1832-1909) a fisherman of Pennan, Aberdeenshire. Played here on a Beltuna Sara 3 in D/G.

Learned in juniors school as a song, to teach us something about our local history as well as to exercise our vocal chords. I was never a singer but the spooky melody stuck.

In A and D on an A/D Beltuna Sara III The box is a tad small for this as I discovered in the first half (more practice needed) but the cat murmured her approval at the end, as she often does, so I left the video as is, warts’ n’all.

Lovely. I love this box!!!
Thanks Martin. I see I managed to hide the fingerboard AND put the title in the wrong place this time.
Fantastic playing, as usual!
Thank you!
What Key is that?
Sixty years ago this was the tune to which I and my classmates sang the Jan Struther lyrics for "When A Knight Won His Spurs".
Likewise.
Thanks! Happy holidays! 🤶🎅🏻🙂😎

Thanks John. Not far from Scotland here!
Nice tune, well done!

The Rose of Raby was a real person. Her name was Cecily Neville and she lived in Raby Castle (County Durham) in her early years. She married Richard, Duke of York and she was mother of two kings - Edward IV & Richard III. Her beauty was legendary, hence the name Rose of Raby.
Thanks. Used to cycle past the castle often when I lived not far away.

By far the best version I’ve ever heard - I really appreciate your style and skill! And the A/D Sara sounds incredible!
Thank you Rich, much appreciated!
Thanks! 😎
Nice, rich tone 🎶🎶💐💐
A superb rendition at exactly the right tempo ,Bravo
Thank you Paul
That’s why that made accordions with four ends
????
Hello, can you play Murka accordion ?
Outstanding.
That’s a great sound you’re getting with all of the harmonies. Nice job
Many thanks Paul. It's always been one of my favourite morris tunes and I like to get my money's worth out of it!
It may be a jig, but that doesn't mean it has to be played at the breakneck speed some players favour. The tempo here is exactly right. I also like the tune because I know a couple, by name William and Nancy.
Yes, I played this as I play it for Black Gate Morris, Newcastle. But some of my tune arrangements on here are not played as for dancing.
Lovely
Thank you!
💖💖💖💖💖💖 One of my VERY favorite tunes and dances.
Thanks, and mine!
😀Das ist ja schön. Ich komme wieder. 😃
Danke schön Rüdiger.
🌞🎅🏻🎄🎉🎉🎉🎉🎄
It's always good to hear the precursor of a tune, now mainly known in its modern incarnation.
Gorgeous
Thanks for posting .....................
I'm a new student accordionist and would love some advice as to where I might find some sheet music for this song. I love my accordion dearly and am slowly collecting songs to learn!
Lovely!
What a pretty tune - just brilliant. Thank you so much for posting!
The words of this are, erm, interesting, by the way ;-)
Yes, they rhyme only if sung in a Scottish accent.
Gorgeous. I do like the sound of that Beltuna!
Bravoo.👍👍Sveikiname iš Lietuvos🇱🇹 🙋♀️🙋♀️

Thank you!!!!!
Really nice playing of a wonderful old tune! Thanks! :-)
Many thanks! Just spotted this!
Great lines! And very nicely danced. I thought for a second that Saul had gone AWOL on the cross-over!
Thanks Vince. Yes, as I remember to my acute embarrassment, the gap you charge through in the audience isn't necessarily still there on your way back!
Lovely song- well played
That’s gorgeous! What make is this box? It has a lovely mellow sound.
Thanks David. The box has no name on it., but I’m pretty sure from its case design its a Mengascini.
@@Swordsmith100 - well, whatever it is, it sounds lovely!
Very nice tune, and nice accordion with great sound... thank for sharing! Friendly, Mauro
Very good, I enjoyed it.
Stunning.
Thank you! I'm afraid iPhone mics don't do boxes any favours though!
Grand playing!!
